Recognizing, Honoring, And Celebrating The Guardian Civic League Of Philadelphia On The Occasion Of Its Hosting Of The 2010 National Black Police Association Eastern Region Conference In Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, The Guardian Civic League of Philadelphia, local chapter of the National Black Police Association was founded in 1956 for the purpose of bringing together those members of the Philadelphia Police Department who were interested in civic betterment through close cooperation between the Police and the communities which they serve; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, the League has spoken out on many important matters that affect the lives of all Philadelphians; and
WHEREAS, The League has developed and implemented various programs throughout the City, which are today benefiting both African-American and low income Philadelphians, including sponsoring classes on police practices and procedures, recruiting and educating prospects regarding career opportunities as police officers, holding community meetings to improve communications and trust between residents and police, providing afterschool employment for youths, working with other community-based organizations to combat crime, and conducting many other socially-beneficial activities; and
WHEREAS, In 1972, the League and twelve other black police organizations from around the country met in St. Louis, Missouri, and formed the National Black Police Association; and
WHEREAS, National Black Police Association currently has a membership of 33,000 officers; and
WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia welcomes the delegates to the National Black Police Association Eastern Region 2010 Conference in Philadelphia and appreciates the leadership, vision, and commitment of the Guardian Civic League of Philadelphia that led to this honor-and wishes them all a successful and beneficial conference; now, therefore,
