Proclaiming June, 2010 as “National Children's Awareness Month.”

The City Council of Philadelphia designates June, 2010 as “National Children's Awareness Month” and encourages that all Philadelphians take part in the many child related events and activities encouraging proper child development and unhealthy child prevention.
 
WHEREAS, National Children's Awareness Month was created to increase awareness about the vulnerability of children; and
 
WHEREAS, A month long celebration of America's children in our everyday lives and communities helps foster awareness of the problems that our children are faced with everyday; and
 
WHEREAS, Not all children have the wonderful childhood we all hope to provide for our own children; and
 
WHEREAS, Many children live in fear and neglect, and each year, approximately 3.3 million children experience some form of domestic violence; and
 
WHEREAS, Children who witness violent and abusive behavior in the home are the most likely individuals to become perpetrators of domestic violence in the future; and
 
WHEREAS, Children are faced with many issues such as vision problems, which may be prevented or treated with proper detection; and
 
WHEREAS, Childhood obesity has more than tripled in the past 30 years and education is the key to addressing and correcting this epidemic; and
 
WHEREAS, Childhood illnesses are both physical and psychological, however the main issue is that these problems affecting children are real and must be addressed and not ignored; and
 
WHEREAS, National Children's Awareness Month was created to increase awareness about the vulnerability of children and without true exposure, education, testing and treatment, our most precious resources will be damaged and ultimately lost; now therefore, be it
 
RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PHILADELPHIA, That Philadelphia designates June, 2010 as “National Children's Awareness Month” in Philadelphia.
