WHEREAS, The City Council of Philadelphia takes great pleasure in recognizing those who, through dedication and excellence, contribute in a meaningful way to the wellbeing of their communities and throughout the City of Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, Born in 1964 in South Philadelphia, Gregory Bucceroni grew up in a low-income, single-parent household with five siblings. To avert juvenile delinquency, he started volunteering with local community activists David Fattah, C.B. Kimmins, and Herman Wrice; and

WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Mr. Bucceroni enlisted in the United States Army. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to Philadelphia and partnered with local community stakeholders in recruiting, training and organizing neighborhood watch groups and safe corridor programs. Those efforts focus on keeping children safe in public schools, at parks, recreation centers, playgrounds, and at public transit hubs in several police districts in Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, In addition to developing community partnerships with the Philadelphia Police Department and District Attorney's Office, Mr. Bucceroni also assisted neighboring police departments in developing community-police partnerships. This led to his being hired by the Managing Director Office's Town Watch Integrated Services to assist in ensuring the safety of police districts in South Philadelphia, Kensington, and Northeast Philadelphia. For his laudable services, Mr. Bucceroni was awarded the 2021 Citizen of the Year Award from the Delaware Valley Citizens Crime Commission; and

WHEREAS, In being a community activist and neighborhood safety advocate, Mr. Bucceroni contributes greatly to our community and the City of Philadelphia.
