Recognizing May 4-8, 2026, as Philly Tech Week in the City of Philadelphia and celebrating the vibrant and thriving tech ecosystem in Philadelphia.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Philly Tech Week is a week-long celebration that highlights emerging technology trends and the exceptional talent that is driving the local innovation ecosystem, bringing technologists, entrepreneurs, and innovators to lead revolutionary conversations and generate new ideas that will promote meaningful progress. This year, Philly Tech Week is hosting its 16th annual celebration of tech and innovation with programming tied to themes around accessibility and community participation ahead of America’s 250th; and

 

WHEREAS, Philly Tech Week was created and is led by Technical.ly, a news organization founded by Christopher Wink in 2009 that has long championed Philadelphia’s tech ecosystem by connecting and challenging technologists, entrepreneurs, and other professionals, and whose core mission is to prioritize community, advance sustainability, invest in impact, accelerate innovation, and lead with a strong team culture; and

 

WHEREAS, Philly Tech Week 2026 is presented by Comcast and hosted by 1Philadelphia, a coalition of stakeholders motivated to make Philly the capital of equitable tech and innovation in three key areas: talent development, community cultivation, and access and upskilling; and

 

WHEREAS, Philadelphia's tech organizations work dynamically to support innovation and entrepreneurship, fostering a local tech ecosystem by connecting stakeholders to strengthen and promote the development of the City’s tech workforce, including Beyond Literacy, Level Up Philly, Philly Tech Sistas, Latinas in Tech, Technology Learning Collaborative (TLC), Hopeworks, Launchpad, DigitalEquityPHL, Coded by:, and Philly Community Wireless; and

 

WHEREAS, Philly Tech Week presents an opportunity to teach youth about technology, innovation, and inspiring future generations about potential careers in STEM fields as it provides career preparation, development of essential digital literacy skills, and helps them navigate the tech world responsibly and ethically; and

 

WHEREAS, As an annual celebration, Philly Tech Week furthers Philadelphia’s reputation as an emerging East Coast hub of technology and innovation, and signifies the City’s commitment to advancing opportunity and development in technological field; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes May 4-8, 2026, as Philly Tech Week in the City of Philadelphia and celebrates the vibrant and thriving tech ecosystem in Philadelphia.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to Christopher Wink, CEO and co-founder of Technical.ly and Philly Tech Week, as evidence of the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.

 

FINALLY RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be also presented to Danae Mobley, CEO of Coded By: and Executive Director of 1Philadelphia, further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
