Commending The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania for its 125 years of educational excellence and innovation in business teaching, research and service.

WHEREAS, The Wharton School was founded in 1881 as the first business school in the United States; and
WHEREAS, The school was established by Joseph Wharton who envisioned an institution that would produce graduates who would become "pillars of the state, whether in private or in public life"; and
WHEREAS, Since its founding, The Wharton School has influenced nearly every business discipline, including risk and insurance, health care, law and ethics, real estate and public policy; and
WHEREAS, The Wharton School is recognized around the world for its innovative leadership and broad academic strengths at every level of business education; and
WHEREAS, Wharton's tradition of innovation includes many firsts, such as, the first business textbook, the first research center at a business school, the first MBA in health care management, and the first and longest running executive education program; and
WHEREAS, Wharton's influence is spread globally through the publication of its biweekly online resource, Knowledge@Wharton, which offers the latest faculty business insights, information, and research to more than 300,000 subscribers in 188 countries; and
WHEREAS, The Wharton School will mark the 125th Anniversary of its founding on January 18, 2006; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby commend The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania for its 125 years of educational excellence and innovation in business teaching, research and service.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to The Wharton School as an expression of this body's congratulations on the School's accomplishments and leadership in business education.
