Honoring and Commending Judge Glenda Hatchett.

Body

WHEREAS, Judge Glenda Hatchett a graduate of Mount Holyoke College and the Emory University School of Law started her professional career as a U.S. District Court Law Clerk to the Honorable Horace T. Ward and then as a Senior Attorney as well as National and International Spokesperson for Delta Air Lines; and

 

WHEREAS, Judge Glenda Hatchett served eight years as Judge of the Fulton County, Georgia Juvenile Court and is Georgia’s first African American Chief Presiding Judge of a state court; and

 

WHEREAS, She has been the Department Head of one of the largest juvenile court systems in the Nation, including Atlanta and nine other municipalities; and

 

WHEREAS, Judge Hatchett was selected by the National Bar Association's local affiliate as the Outstanding Jurist of the Year, she was selected by the Spelman College Board of Trustees to receive the Outstanding Community Service Award, she also received the 1995 NAACP Thurgood Marshall Award, and was selected as the Outstanding Alumni of the Year by the Emory University School of Law; and

 

WHEREAS, Judge Hatchett has a hit nationally syndicated television program appropriately titled, “Judge Hatchett” whereby she seeks, with great success, to build relationships between parents and their troubled teens; and

 

WHEREAS, Judge Hatchett has now put pen to paper and is broadening her outreach to touch more families through her book, Say What You Mean and Mean What You Say!; and

 

WHEREAS, Say What You Mean and Mean What You Say! has seven strategies to assist parents in positively developing interaction with their children which are: 1) Expect Greatness 2) Say What You Mean and Mean What You Say 3) Listen Carefully 4) Keep Your Word 5) Cheer 6) Make Money Matter and 7) Reach, Teach and Preach; and

 

WHEREAS, This book will certainly further her mission and goal for improving the lives of families throughout the United States; now therefore

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby honors and commends Judge Glenda Hatchett for her excellent work and dedication to improving the lives of families through her writings and television.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Judge Glenda Hatchett as evidence of the sincere admiration of this legislative body.
