Recognizing and honoring the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia (SBN) on its 25th anniversary for its outstanding leadership in advancing a just, green, and thriving local economy and for its enduring commitment to the independent businesses and communities that make Philadelphia thrive.

 

Body

WHEREAS, For the past 25 years, the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia (SBN), founded in 2001, has championed an economy where independent, value-driven businesses can thrive, communities prosper, and the environment is protected, guided by the Triple Bottom Line framework of People, Planet, and Prosperity; and

 

WHEREAS, SBN’s work is organized across three interconnected pillars, business growth, stability and environmental stewardship. People, community, and prosperity are supported by a cross-cutting commitment to legislative advocacy, education, financial opportunity, and community building; and

 

WHEREAS, SBN serves more than 135 member businesses, the majority of which are women-owned, BIPOC-owned, LGBTQ+-owned, and immigrant-owned, and reaches thousands more annually through programs, partnerships, and policy advocacy that strengthen the city and regional independent business community; and

 

WHEREAS, SBN serves values-driven, multi-industry businesses across Philadelphia and the Greater Philadelphia region including independent retailers, restaurants and food businesses, service providers, and environmental enterprises. Across Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties in Pennsylvania; Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Mercer, and Salem counties in New Jersey; and New Castle County in Delaware having become a trusted convener, educator, and advocate that advances local, state, and federal policies supporting small businesses, environmental protection, and equitable economic development; and

 

WHEREAS, Through initiatives including the Urban Forestry Initiative, Green Stormwater Infrastructure Partners, the Climate Action Campaign, Business for Impact, and its cohort-learning and mentorship programs, SBN has equipped entrepreneurs with the tools, mentorship, and networks they need to succeed while protecting the environment and uplifting the neighborhoods these businesses serve; and

 

WHEREAS, The organization’s achievements are the result of the dedication and vision of its founders, board members past and present, staff, member businesses, community partners, funders, and civic leaders who have supported its mission over the past 25 years; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors and recognizes the 25th anniversary of the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia and commends the organization for its steadfast commitment and dedication for all Philadelphians.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution shall be presented to the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia as evidence of the sincere respect, gratitude, and admiration of this legislative body.
