Honoring and recognizing Edward “Ed” McBride, PECO External Affairs Manager on the occasion of his passing.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Ed McBride joined PECO in 1969 as a mechanic’s helper and quickly advanced to mechanic first class. Ed McBride was one of the longest-tenured employees with 52 years of service. He was the ultimate PECO ambassador, endearingly known as “The Mayor” with his network and connections that extended far and wide throughout Philadelphia and the surrounding counties; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1992, Ed McBride joined PECO’s Community Affairs department, where he was responsible for managing the company’s relationship with the City of Philadelphia; and

 

WHEREAS, After twenty-six years as the Manager of External Affairs for Philadelphia County, Ed McBride was appointed as the Manager of Local Government Affairs for PECO’s service territory. Not only has McBride held numerous leadership positions throughout the company but has spearheaded several different initiatives at PECO including founding PECOPAC and the IGA Credit Union service branch; and

 

WHEREAS, Ed McBride also participated in several employee volunteer programs at PECO, including MLK Day and Thanksgiving holiday activities at MANNA; and

 

WHEREAS, In the community, Ed McBride was very involved in many first responder organizations and served on a number of community and business boards. Including Member of Board of Directors for Nazareth Hospital and Mercy Health; Director and Chair of the Audit Committee of IGA Federal Savings Bank and First Penn Bank; Board member Firemen’s Hall Museum and Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and a founding member of the South Street Headhouse District; and

 

WHEREAS, Ed McBride was also the President and Chairman of the Variety Club of the Delaware Valley, where he served for fifty years and was recently recognized by the Variety Club and presented with the Golden Heart of Variety award; and

 

WHEREAS, Ed McBride was also a Township Supervisor, and Chairman of the Board of Upper Merion Township, Ed McBride also helps spread holiday cheer to employees and families during the holiday season by serving as Santa at PECO and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and recognize the invaluable contributions of Edward “Ed” McBride to the City of Philadelphia. Ed will surely be missed by all of those that he had touched and met over the years.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Cathy McBride as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
