Commending Mr. Bernard A. Guet for his service as President of the Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association and for his leadership in the hospitality community.
Body
WHEREAS, Mr. Bernard A. Guet was born in Paris, France and hails from a long line of hoteliers going back three generations; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Guet graduated from the Hotel Management School of Paris and did his first internship in the United States at the Sagamore Hotel in upstate New York; and
WHEREAS, While serving in the military, Mr. Guet served General Charles DeGaulle, then President of France, as Maitre d'Hotel; and
WHEREAS, Upon returning to the United States, he joined the Loews Corporation where he managed hotels and resorts in Arizona, Colorado, Bermuda, Toronto and Quebec; and
WHEREAS, In 1988, Mr. Guet moved on to the Hyatt company initially working at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort in Orlando, and later relocated to Miami to manage the Hyatt Regency which is connected to the Miami Convention Center; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Guet was a part of the opening team for the Park Hyatt Philadelphia at the Bellevue in 1996; and
WHEREAS, During his years in Philadelphia, Mr. Guet has served the hotel, hospitality and convention business sector through his involvement on the Board of Directors for the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, and as President of the Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Guet has served as President of the Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association for four years and during his tenure he worked to attract key conventions to the City, to improve customer service at the Convention Center, and to promote the importance of the tourism and hospitality sector to Philadelphia's economy; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby commend Mr. Bernard A. Guet for his tireless efforts to improve the hospitality and tourism business sector, his professionalism within the hotel industry, and his service to the City of Philadelphia.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Bernard A. Guet as a symbol of this legislative's body gratitude for his leadership and service in the hospitality community.
