Recognizing, Honoring, Celebrating, and Thanking The Chestnut Hill Local for its invaluable contributions to the Chestnut Hill Community and the City of Philadelphia on the occasion of its 50th Anniversary.

Body

WHEREAS, The Chestnut Hill Local was first published in 1958, after a decision by the Chestnut Hill Community Association in December of 1957 that a community newspaper was needed in recognition that communicating with the Public was essential to its success; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chestnut Hill Local was so-named with reference to the two local commuter train lines and the fact that it would be the Chestnut Hill Community’s local newspaper; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chestnut Hill Local is the only legitimate newspaper owned and published by a community association in the Country; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chestnut Hill Local publishes news vital to the Community, covering local politics, business. sports, cultural events, and personalities; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chestnut Hill Local’s policy is to anticipate community problems and prepare public opinion for their solutions, to review community problems as they arise and to present possible solutions, to study community problems and, with the help of expert opinion, direct community thinking toward a solution consistent with local tradition and the best forward-looking interests of Chestnut Hill; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chestnut Hill Local has become an award-winning, independent weekly newspaper that serves the neighborhood of Chestnut Hill, and so improves the quality of life in the City of Philadelphia as well; and

 

WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia hopes for—nay, demands—another 50 years of journalistic excellence from The Chestnut Hill Local; now, therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it recognizes, honors, celebrates, and thanks The Chestnut Hill Local for its invaluable contributions to the Chestnut Hill Community and the City of Philadelphia on the occasion of its 50th Anniversary.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to The Chestnut Hill Local, further evidencing the sincere admiration and gratitude of this legislative body.
