Recognizing the Philadelphia Eagles for the plan to convert Lincoln Financial Field to self - generated renewable energy including onsite wind, solar power and dual-fuel generated electricity, which will make it the first stadium in the world with these sustainable capabilities.

WHEREAS, In 2003, the Philadelphia Eagles embarked upon an ambitious Go Green campaign that promotes environmental awareness and sustainability; and
WHEREAS, Through Recycling, using renewable energy resources, neutralizing carbon output, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and tree planting, the Philadelphia Eagles Go Green program has greatly reduced their environmental footprint; and
WHEREAS, In 2009, The Philadelphia Eagles were awarded the Philadelphia Sustainability Award by the Pennsylvania Environmental Council; and
WHEREAS, In 2010, The Eagles made their annual contribution to the Go Zero Conservation Program to offset our carbon emissions for the 2010 regular season. The Eagles annual contribution this year will support the planting of 563 bottomland hardwood seedlings at Lake Ophelia National Wildlife Refuge in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Eagles plan to install 2,500 solar panels, eighty 20-feet-high wind turbines, and an alternative-fuels power plant that will save them $60 million on electricity costs over 20 years; and
WHEREAS, The new equipment will generate at least 8.6 megawatts of electricity above the 7 megawatts peak used by the stadium on game days, enough to power 26,000 homes, and the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions will be the equivalent of taking 41,000 cars off the road; and
WHEREAS, Lincoln Financial Field, the home of the Philadelphia Eagles, will be the first stadium in the world capable of generating its own electricity; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby recognize the Philadelphia Eagles for the plan to convert Lincoln Financial Field to self-generated renewable energy including onsite wind, solar power and dual-fuel generated electricity, which will make it the first stadium in the world with these sustainable capabilities.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Philadelphia Eagles as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
