Honoring Wendy Lady-B Clark, hip-hop pioneer and one of the first female radio personalities to introduce the musical genre of hip-hop, for thirty years of dedication to her art and most importantly, her community.

WHEREAS, Wendy Lady-B Clark is an American rapper from West Philadelphia where she attended Overbrook High School. Wendy Lady-B Clark is one of the earliest female rappers in hip-hop history and one of the first to record a studio album and the first in Philadelphia, with the single To the Beat Y'all; and
WHEREAS, Even as women were subject to great discrimination in journalism and radio broadcasting, Wendy Lady-B Clark began her career with the W.H.A.T. radio station in 1979 where she was hired full time after serving as an intern; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her artistic achievements, Wendy Lady-B Clark has committed to using her resources and talent to improve the City of Philadelphia by using her radio talk show, The Street Beat as a community forum to discuss issues, as well as, promoting hip-hop music on air; and
WHEREAS, Wendy Lady-B Clark has received the world renowned Entertainment Role Model of Excellence Award, as evidence of her high levels of commitment to the community and the youth of Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, Wendy Lady-B Clark has worked closely with the Peace and Love Foundation to promote anti-violence and peaceful resolutions to violence among the youth of Philadelphia; and address the effects of youth violence such as: flash mobs, bullying, verbal slurs, and lack of respect for life and elders; and
WHEREAS, Wendy Lady-B Clark hosted a Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, to address violence amongst the young of Philadelphia with parents, administrators and legislators; now therefore,
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors Wendy Lady-B Clark, hip-hop pioneer and one of the first female radio personalities to introduce the musical genre of hip-hop, for thirty years of dedication to her art and most importantly, her community.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Wendy Lady-B Clark as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
