Honoring Philadelphia’s own Raheem Brock and Marvin Harrison on being a part of the 2006 Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts and further recognizing their continued contribution to the City of Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, On February 4, 2007, the Indianapolis Colts defeated the Chicago Bears 29-17 to win Super Bowl XLI; and
WHEREAS, Two of Philadelphia’s native sons, defensive end Raheem Brock and wide receiver Marvin Harrison were part of the Indianapolis Colts Championship team; and
WHEREAS, Raheem Brock attended Dobbins High School and Temple University here in the City of Philadelphia and in his senior season for Dobbins earned many honors including All Area, All City and All Public honors in football; and
WHEREAS, Originally a draftee of the Philadelphia Eagles, Raheem signed with the Indianapolis Colts as a free agent in July 2002 where he has been an outstanding player for the past five years; and
WHEREAS, In 2005, not forgetting his roots, Raheem enabled his alma matter, Dobbins High School, to receive a $10,000 donation for the football program through the NFL’s Player matching program and further emphasized the importance of education Brock also launched the Raheem Brock Student-Athlete Scholarship at Dobbins High School which rewards one male and one female student-athlete with $1,000 towards their post-secondary education; and
WHEREAS, Marvin Harrison attended Roman Catholic High School here in the City of Philadelphia and was a three-time Maxwell Award Winner, given to the City’s top player; and
WHEREAS, In 1996, the Indianapolis Colts selected Marvin with the 19th overall draft pick and he has established himself as one of the greatest wide-receivers in NFL history including ranking fourth in receptions, sixth in receiving yards, third in receiving touchdowns all-time and not to mention 8 Pro Bowl Starter selections; and
WHEREAS, Marvin has continually given back to the City of Philadelphia by, but not limited to: hosting a Christmas celebration with resident children at Northwestern Humane Services in Philadelphia; along with Donovan McNabb and Bobby Taylor hosting a three-on-three charity basketball tournament in the off-season to benefit March of Dimes; sponsoring "Effort to Succeed", a program which honors students from Philadelphia schools; sponsoring one Philadelphia high school student each summer to attend Syracuse University and a special turkey giveaway at Thanksgiving for inner-city Philadelphia residents; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and celebrate Philadelphia’s own Raheem Brock and Marvin Harrison on being a part of the 2006 Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts and further recognizing their continued commitment to help transforming the lives of young people and the less fortunate here in the City of Philadelphia.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Raheem Brock and Marvin Harrison further evidencing the sincere admiration and gratitude of this legislative body.
