Welcoming NBA All-Star and Swingman Jaylen Brown to Philadelphia as he begins his tenure with the Philadelphia 76ers.

WHEREAS, Jaylen Brown was born in Marietta, Georgia and attended Wheeler High School, where he led his team to the Georgia State Championship in 2015 and was recognized as Mr. Georgia Basketball while being named a McDonald’s All-American and Parade All-American; and
WHEREAS, Jaylen Brown spent one season at the University of California, Berkley, and earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and All-Pac-12 honors; and
WHEREAS, In 2016, Jaylen Brown was drafted third overall by the Boston Celtics where he would become a five-time NBA All-Star, a two-time All-NBA Team member, and help lead the Celtics to the NBA Championship in 2024, winning the 2024 NBA Finals MVP; and
WHEREAS, In the 2025-2026 NBA season, Jaylen Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists while leading the Celtics to finish second in the Eastern Conference with 56 wins before being eliminated in the 2026 playoffs by the Philadelphia 76ers; and
WHEREAS, Off the court, Jaylen Brown was elected as the NBA Players Association’s youngest vice president, named an MIT Media Lab Director’s Fellow in 2019, offered an internship with NASA, and has given a lecture at Harvard; and
WHEREAS, Jaylen Brown’s organization, The 7uice Foundation, offers a Bridge Program at the MIT Media Lab helping connect Boston youth with STEM and STEAM resources and prepare them for the future; and
WHEREAS, Jaylen Brown also launched Boston XChange (BXC), a nonprofit enterprise and long-term commitment to build generational wealth and foster cultural innovation in underserved and underrepresented communities; and
WHEREAS, On July 6, 2026, The Philadelphia 76ers acquired Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics in a blockbuster trade; and
WHEREAS, This legislative body is excited to welcome Jaylen Brown to the City of Brotherly Love as he takes the court with the Philadelphia 76ers in pursuit of bringing the Larry O’Brien NBA Championship Trophy back to Philadelphia; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors and welcomes Jaylen Brown to Philadelphia as one of the newest members of the Philadelphia 76ers.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to Jaylen Brown as evidence of the sincere appreciation and gratitude of this legislative body.
