Honoring the 50th Anniversary of the Professional Convention Management Association.

Body

WHEREAS, The Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) was founded fifty years ago as a networking exchange for health care association executives; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1980, the PCMA members voted to extend membership to industry suppliers such as hoteliers, convention and visitor bureaus, and audio-visual companies designating them as Affiliate members; and

 

Whereas, The PCMA Education Foundation was later established to ensure the availability of highly trained professional employees for the future of the meeting industry; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1990, PCMA opened membership to all nonprofit association meeting professionals and CEO’s and also created the Network for the Needy Program which encourages donation of surplus food from meeting events to local food rescue programs; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1995, the Education Foundation launched the learning Environment Specialist program to help hotel conference centers and convention center professionals create optimal conditions for learning; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1998, PCMA approved a series of Bylaw amendments that included a revision to the organization’s mission statement to clarify the focus to support, promote and educate the association community; and

 

WHEREAS, PCMA’s magazine Convene was named a 2003 EXCEL Society of National Association Publications Gold Award winner for its September 2002 cover; now therefore

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and commend the Professional Convention Management Association on the occasion of its 50th Anniversary; and

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the PCMA as a symbol of this legislative body’s gratitude for the role it has played to improve, educate and promote the value of professional convention management.
