Recognizing Ambassador John Giordano, United States Ambassador to the Republic of Namibia, and celebrating his distinguished career of public service.

WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career, Ambassador Giordano served in key leadership capacities across local, state, and federal government-including positions in the United States Department of Energy, the United States Department of Justice Environment and Natural Resources Division, as Deputy Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and as Assistant Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection; and
WHEREAS, Ambassador Giordano has consistently dedicated himself to educating future generations of leaders, having served as a Lecturer in Law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School and an Adjunct Professor at Rutgers University School of Law; and
WHEREAS, In 2019, Ambassador Giordano expanded his service to the international arena when he was appointed to represent the United States at the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, focusing on critical global issues including human trafficking countermeasures and counterterrorism; and
WHEREAS, In early 2025, he answered the call to public service once again, serving as the United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey, where he oversaw federal prosecutions and targeted transnational criminal networks, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and violent gang operations; and
WHEREAS, John Giordano was confirmed by the United States Senate as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Namibia on October 7, 2025, sworn in on October 9, 2025, and presented his credentials to President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on October 29, 2025; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes Ambassador John Giordano, United States Ambassador to the Republic of Namibia, and commends him for his decades of dedicated service to our region and nation and wishes him continued success in representing the United States on the world stage.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to Ambassador John Giordano as evidence of the sincere respect of this legislative body.
