Also designating and ceremonially renaming the corner of East Ashmead Street and Wakefield Street as “Ennis Way,” in recognition of his extraordinary accomplishments in boxing, his representation of Philadelphia on the world stage, and his commitment to inspiring and giving back to the young people of his hometown.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Jaron “Boots” Ennis was born and raised in Philadelphia and has carried the spirit, resilience, and determination of his hometown throughout his professional boxing career; and

 

WHEREAS, Boots has established himself as one of the world's elite professional boxers, earning international recognition for his exceptional skill, discipline, athleticism, and accomplishments inside the ring; and

 

WHEREAS, Jaron “Boots” Ennis has remained deeply connected to the Philadelphia community and has consistently demonstrated that his commitment to his hometown extends beyond his accomplishments as a professional athlete; and

 

WHEREAS, Ennis has used his platform to encourage young people to pursue their dreams, remain dedicated to their goals, make healthy choices, and recognize that success is possible regardless of where they begin; and

 

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia boxing community, including James Shuler Memorial Boxing Gym, Front Street Gym, Marian Anderson Boxing, 365 Boxing, Bozy's Dungeon, and numerous other neighborhood gyms and coaches, has played an important role in sustaining the City's boxing legacy and providing young Philadelphians with mentorship and opportunity; and

 

WHEREAS, The naming of a street in honor of Jaron “Boots” Ennis would recognize not only his accomplishments as a world-class athlete, but also the neighborhoods, families, coaches, gyms, and community members that helped shape his journey; and

 

WHEREAS, A permanent street designation would provide a lasting symbol to Philadelphia's young people that champions can emerge from their own neighborhoods and that achievement carries a responsibility to inspire and give back to the next generation; and

 

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors Jaron “Boots” Ennis for his extraordinary accomplishments in professional boxing, his representation of Philadelphia on the international stage, and his continuing commitment to the people and youth of his hometown by designating the corner of East Ashmead Street and Wakefield Street, as “Ennis Way”.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to Jaron “Boots” Ennis as a symbol of the gratitude, admiration, and pride of the Council of the City of Philadelphia and the people of Philadelphia.
