Honoring and Recognizing the Key Stakeholders of Philadelphia’s Citywide Summer 2026 Events.

WHEREAS, The Summer of 2026 brought together residents, visitors, and partners from across the City and around the world for a season of historic commemorations, major sporting events, cultural programming, and neighborhood celebrations that reflected Philadelphia’s identity as the birthplace of American democracy and a vibrant, diverse, and welcoming City; and
WHEREAS, Philadelphia served as a host City for the FIFA World Cup 2026, welcoming more than half a million visitors and hosting six matches at Lincoln Financial Field, including group-stage contests and a Round of 16 match held on July 4, 2026; and
WHEREAS, FIFA Fan Fest programming and related public celebrations accompanied these matches, inviting fans from around the world to experience Philadelphia’s neighborhoods, arts, food, and hospitality while reinforcing the City’s place as a global destination for sport and culture; and
WHEREAS, The City joined the nation in marking the Semi quincentennial and the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence through America250 commemorations that honored Philadelphia’s foundational role in American history; and
WHEREAS, Philadelphia hosted Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game and its surrounding festivities, celebrating the City’s deep baseball tradition and its capacity to welcome national audiences for world-class sporting events; and
WHEREAS, Philadelphia’s Fourth of July celebrations, concerts, parades, community festivals, arts programming, youth activities, and neighborhood-based cultural events extended the reach of the Summer of 2026 into communities throughout the City, ensuring that the season reflected the experiences and contributions of residents in every part of the City; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, Chief Deputy Mayor Vanessa Garrett Harley and City Representative Jazelle Jones and the Office of Special Events spearheaded and coordinated Philadelphia’s 2026 municipal response for these major events. Chief Deputy Mayor Harley organized the Special Events Senior Policy Group that brought together all City operating department heads including the 2026 Director to ensure the successful planning and execution of these historic events. City Council proudly recognizes every City employee whose dedication and teamwork helped make 2026 a tremendous success. We acknowledge the following departments: including the Office of the Mayor, the Managing Director’s Office, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, the Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, the Department of Streets, the Department of Public Health, the Philadelphia Fire Department, the Philadelphia Police Department, the Office of Emergency Management, the Department of Licenses and Inspections, the Office of Human Resources, the Law Department, the Office of Innovation and Technology and countless public servants whose planning and on-the-ground service ensured that events were safe, accessible, clean, and welcoming; and
WHEREAS, The City also recognizes the indispensable partnership of SEPTA, transportation providers, Philadelphia International Airport, hospitality and tourism leaders, sports organizations, event producers, cultural institutions, community-based organizations, neighborhood associations, schools, universities, faith communities, labor partners, local businesses, sponsors, vendors, artists, musicians, performers, volunteers, and residents, all of whom contributed their time, skill, creativity, and resources to the success of these events; and
WHEREAS, The Summer of 2026 created meaningful opportunities for local businesses, workers, artists, young people, visitors, and residents, while demonstrating the strength of Philadelphia’s neighborhoods and the power of collaboration across government, civic institutions, the private sector, and community life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors and recognizes the key stakeholders whose leadership, partnership, service, and dedication made possible Philadelphia’s citywide Summer 2026 events, including FIFA Fan Fest activities, semi quincentennial and America250 commemorations, Major League Baseball All-Star festivities, Fourth of July celebrations, and the many cultural and neighborhood events held throughout the City.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to the honorees as a token of the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
