Honoring and recognizing broadcasting pioneer Patty Jackson for her induction to the Philadelphia Music Alliance Walk of Fame and congratulating Ms. Jackson for breaking new ground as the first female radio personality to be inducted to the Walk.

WHEREAS, Patty Jackson was born and raised in South Philadelphia, where her talent for broadcasting emerged at Southwark Motivation High School where she was the announcer on her school PA every morning. After attending American Academy for Broadcasting she began her lengthy career in radio; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Jackson’s 35-year career has included working for Power 99 FM and Q102, but she is best known for her show, Café 105 on 105.3 WDAS-FM where she interviewed some of the biggest names in entertainment; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Jackson’s talents are not just limited to radio; she has hosted telethons, been on NBC10’s 10! Show, has been the entertainment correspondent on CN8’s Your Morning the first Friday of the month, and has written an entertainment column for the Philadelphia Tribune. Ms. Jackson’s voice is also used to welcome travelers at the Philadelphia International Airport from all over the world to our City; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Jackson has shown commitment to community service, by supporting and advocating for many causes and organizations such as the Breast Cancer Race for The Cure, the National Woman’s Heart Day Campaign, Coalition Against Hunger, and more. After suffering a stroke in 2015, Ms. Jackson used volunteering and public speaking to raise awareness about heart disease; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Jackson’s career has been honored throughout her career with countless awards from both local and national organizations. She received the Communicator of the Year Award in 1995 from the National Black MBA Association and she was recognized by the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists for Outstanding Community Service in 2005. In recognition of Ms. Jackson’s tireless advocacy for disease research and prevention, the American Heart Association awarded Patty its Most Powerful Volunteer Award and the March of Dimes has honored her twice, once with the Achievement in Radio Award and again for Best Weekday Midday Host. Ms. Jackson has also been voted Favorite Radio Personality multiple times by the readers of the Philadelphia Tribune. Most recently, the City of Philadelphia honored Ms. Jackson with the South Philadelphia Living Legends Award, and the 2300 block of Ellsworth Street in South Philadelphia was renamed "Patty Jackson Way" in honor of her contributions to local culture; and
WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Music Alliance was founded in June 1986 as a way to promote Philadelphia’s rich musical history, while simultaneously supporting the City’s music scene. One of the defining features of the Music Alliance is its Walk of Fame, which lies along the Avenue of the Arts, from Walnut Street to Spruce Street. The Walk of Fame contains the names of over 100 Philadelphia area musicians who have had a significant impact on the music scene; and
WHEREAS, This year, Ms. Jackson will be one of honored as one of the Music Alliances’ 2023 Walk Of Fame Inductees. Her historic induction will make her the first female radio personality to be inducted to the Walk; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Jackson’s career had a profound influence on the entertainment industry in Philadelphia, and has been an tireless advocate and activist for Philadelphia; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the hereby Honors and recognizes broadcasting pioneer Patty Jackson for her induction to the Philadelphia Music Alliance Walk of Fame and congratulating Ms. Jackson for breaking new ground as the first female radio personality to be inducted to the Walk.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. Patty Jackson as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
