WHEREAS, Sid Mark launched “The Sounds of Sinatra” in Philadelphia 50 years ago; and
WHEREAS, Sid Mark is the nation’s leading authority when it comes to the music of Frank Sinatra; and
WHEREAS, Sid Mark has the largest collection of Sinatra recordings anywhere outside of Frank’s own private vaults in excess of 1800 individual song titles on vinyl records and over 200 compact discs; and
WHEREAS, Sid Mark has been treating Philadelphia audiences to the music of Ol’ Blue Eyes; and
WHEREAS, His “Friday with Frank,” “Saturday with Sinatra” and “Sunday with Sinatra” shows are America’s longest running radio programs with the same host; and
WHEREAS, In 1979, Sid took The Sounds of Sinatra to the national level with affiliates in New York and Los Angeles; and
WHEREAS, Soon the show spread across the country to where it is today, the national syndication of “The Sounds of Sinatra,” now heard on more than 100 radio stations from coast to coast; and
WHEREAS, Sid Mark’s Sinatra programs are special because Sid Mark offers more than just Frank’s remarkable music. Sid Mark adds fascinating insights into Sinatra’s career, with personal anecdotes and stories behind the music; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That City Council Hereby Recognize, Honor, And Celebrate Sid Mark — On The Occasion Of His Radio Program’s 50th Anniversary: 2005 — “Friday with Frank,” “Saturday with Sinatra” and “Sunday with Sinatra.”
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Sid Mark as further evidencing the sincere admiration and gratitude of this legislative body.
