Recognizing and honoring the incredible work of Philly Queer Fundy in organizing and activating Philadelphia’s LGBTQ+ community for direct action, mutual aid, & community safety in a beautiful display of solidarity and intersectionality in action.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Philly Queer Fundy was founded in 2025 with the goal of activating the queer community of Philadelphia and has worked tirelessly to build community and solidarity in Philadelphia through organizing, training and fundraising; and

 

WHEREAS, Philly Queer Fundy organizes the queer community’s desire for action into fundraiser parties, called Fundys, which raise thousands of dollars for LGBTQ+ and Immigrant organizations by lifting up the creativity, artistry, and joy of the queer community and motivating community members to contribute; and

 

WHEREAS, Through fundraiser events, Philly Queer Fundy raised $11,000 for Asylum Pride House, which provides housing and resources for LGBTQ+ immigrants in Philly; and nearly $10,000 combined for Asian Americans United’s Communities and Solidarity Fund and the Pennsylvania Chapter of Nation Domestic Workers United, organizations that directly support immigrant communities through rapid response, community organizing, and advocacy; and

 

WHEREAS, In response to the violence perpetrated by ICE across America that has escalated under the current federal administration, Philly Queer Fundy sprung into action, hosting and coordinating a series of ICE OUT community solidarity and bystander trainings, teaching 3,000 Philadelphians their constitutional rights and what to do to support their neighbors and colleagues during an encounters with ICE, and building a leadership network of over 120 Philadelphians trained to lead these sessions and fight back in their own communities; and

 

WHEREAS, Philly Queer Fundy is adding to the extensive history of LGBTQ+ activism in Philadelphia, recognizing and centering the need for solidarity at a time of crisis, and using direct action to uplift the intersectional struggles of LGBTQ+ and Immigrant Communities, undeniably making this city a better place than it was before, now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes and honors the crucial work and dedicated community building of Philly Queer Fundy, and commends the organization for stepping up to fill a gap in organizing that was desperately needed in our city.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution shall be presented to Philly Queer Fundy as evidence of the sincere respect, gratitude, and admiration of this legislative body.
