Honoring and recognizing Shelice’s Angels for its work empowering young women by expanding their horizons, building self-esteem, and providing resources, mentorship, and exposure to opportunities beyond their immediate environments.
Body
WHEREAS, Shelice’s Angels is a nonprofit organization established in 2019 and founded by Zaire Franklin, a West Oak Lane native, La Salle College High School alumnus, Syracuse University graduate, and professional football player, who created the organization in honor of his late mother, Shelice Highsmith, and in gratitude for the strong women who raised him and instilled in him a commitment to giving back; and
WHEREAS, Shelice’s Angels was formed with the goal of helping young women see the many opportunities available to them beyond their current environments, opening doors and providing resources that build self-esteem, confidence, and positive reinforcement in their lives; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, Shelice’s Angels has inspired and supported adolescent young women through initiatives that promote academic achievement, careers in technology, entrepreneurship, community engagement, and leadership, demonstrating a sustained commitment to investing in the next generation; and
WHEREAS, The organization’s mission is to inspire and ignite the potential of the communities it serves by teaching and educating young people to maximize their potential where they live, while also encouraging them to view the world as larger than their immediate surroundings and to develop the confidence and perspective needed to pursue ambitious goals; and
WHEREAS, Shelice’s Angels operates programs such as business and entrepreneurship academies and “Day in the Life” experiences that introduce participants to financial literacy, team building, college and career pathways, and real-world professional environments; and
WHEREAS, Through scholarship events and community programming in Philadelphia, Shelice’s Angels continues to deepen its impact by celebrating the achievements of young women, raising vital funds, and creating structured, supportive spaces where girls are seen, encouraged, and equipped to lead; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors and recognizes Shelice’s Angels for its work empowering young women, expanding opportunity, and investing in their leadership, and expresses its appreciation for the organization’s ongoing commitment to uplifting young people and communities across Philadelphia.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to Shelice’s Angels and its founder, Zaire Franklin, as evidence of the sincere respect and gratitude of this legislative body.
