Honoring and recognizing Trey Howard for his heroic response to the plane crash in Northeast Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, On January 31, 2025, a tragic plane crash in Northeast Philadelphia claimed the lives of six people aboard a medical transport jet and one individual on the ground, while leaving several others injured; and
WHEREAS, Among the survivors of this crash is 10-year-old Trey Howard, who displayed extraordinary bravery as he protected his younger sister from flying debris during the devastating event; and
WHEREAS, As his father, Andre Howard Jr., was driving with his children, the crash occurred, causing debris to strike their vehicle, including a piece of metal that impaled Trey’s head; and
WHEREAS, Trey immediately acted selflessly to shield his younger sister, telling her to "Get down!" as the plane crashed nearby, before covering her with his own body; and
WHEREAS, Trey sustained critical injuries, including a head wound, and underwent emergency brain surgery, during which doctors feared his survival, yet Trey's will to live and the care of his medical team have led to a miraculous recovery; and
WHEREAS, Despite his injuries, Trey's first concern upon waking from surgery was his sister’s safety, demonstrating his deep love and protective instincts; and
WHEREAS, The community and medical professionals have rallied around Trey, with his story becoming a symbol of courage, strength, and resilience, uplifting everyone who has witnessed his recovery; and
WHEREAS, Trey’s miraculous recovery has inspired countless individuals, reminding us of the power of love, family, and selflessness even in the face of tragedy; and
WHEREAS, To further lift his spirits and recognize his bravery, Trey was visited by his idol, Philadelphia 76ers' Tyrese Maxey, who celebrated Trey as a superhero for his remarkable courage; and
WHEREAS, Trey Howard continues to recover and is receiving ongoing support from his family, friends, and the medical professionals at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors and recognizes Trey Howard for his heroic response to the plane crash in Northeast Philadelphia.
FUTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy be presented to Trey Howard and his family in recognition and awe of this legislative body.
