Commending the Honorable Morton Krase.
Body
WHEREAS, The Honorable Morton Krase is assuming senior status after two decades as a Judge of the Philadelphia Municipal Court. He has earned the title of “The People’s Judge” for his untiring and dedicated service to the citizens of Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, Judge Krase has specialized in consumer law, adjudicating thousands of cases, with fairness and sensitivity, making each litigant feel that he or she has had the full opportunity to be heard; and
WHEREAS, Judge Krase was born and raised in Philadelphia, the son of Sarah and Samuel Krase. He grew up in Lawndale, where he was active in local sports teams, managing a basketball team, where the legendary Billy Meehan was coach and Tom Gola and Earl Monroe were stars, and where he played second base for the Second District Police Athletic League; and
WHEREAS, Judge Krase graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1952, where he earned a letter in basketball and was sports editor of the Lincoln Log and the senior yearbook. In 1954, he met his future wife, Vicky, while he was a counselor at Camp Arthur and she was a counselor a Camp Reeta. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Temple University in 1956; and
WHEREAS, Judge Krase was a teacher in the Philadelphia public schools from 1956 to 1962, teaching history, social studies and the fifth grade at the Smedley School and the McKinley School; and
WHEREAS, Judge Krase graduated from Temple University School of Law in 1962, where he won the First Prize for Legal Research and Writing and the First Prize for Labor Law, and where he was voted class representative; and
WHEREAS, Judge Krase served the people of Philadelphia, as an attorney in private practice with a neighborhood office in Lawndale and an office in Center City, law clerk to the Honorable Stanley M. Greenberg and the Honorable Vito F. Canuso, and Special Deputy Attorney General for the Bureau of Consumer Protection for Philadelphia and surrounding counties, before ascending to the bench in 1983; and
WHEREAS, Judge Krase has been active in a host of community organizations including the Philadelphia Bar Association, where he was chair of the Consumer Protection Committee, Tau Epsilon Rho Law Society, the Bustleton Bengals, Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association, the Lawndale Businessmen’s Association, and the Masons MacSanders Brotherhood Lodge. He presently serves on the executive committees of the Temple Law Alumni Association and the General Alumni of Temple University; and
WHEREAS, Judge Krase and his wife, Vicky, have two children, Sharon and Scott, and five grandchildren; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby commend and congratulate the Honorable Morton Krase on assuming the title of senior judge. We wish him and his family many years of success and happiness, and we thank him for his distinguished service to the citizens of this City.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Morton Krase as evidence of the sincere respect and deep admiration of this legislative body.
