Honoring David Wismer on being recognized as Code Official of the Year by the International Code Council and commending him for his many years of service to the citizens of Philadelphia.
Body
WHEREAS, David Wismer graduated from Drexel University in 1966 with a degree in Civil Engineering; and
 
WHEREAS, After serving his country in the United States Army in the Republic of South Korea, Dave joined the Department of Licenses and Inspections; and
 
WHEREAS, In his long and storied career in Philadelphia, Dave Wismer has served the Department of Licenses and Inspections as Director of Planning and Code Development, Deputy Commissioner, Chief of the Building Division, Chief of the Construction Division, Building Plans Examination Supervisor, Building Plans Examination Engineer; and
 
WHEREAS, Prior to his service with the Department of Licenses and Inspections, Dave Wismer served the Department of Streets as a Civil Engineer; and
 
WHEREAS, Throughout his career David Wismer has dedicated much of his time and effort towards improving safety in the built environment and has worked towards the adoption and continuation of model codes in the City of Philadelphia; and
 
WHEREAS, David Wismer has maintained leadership and membership in numerous organizations including the Association of Major City Building Officials, American Society of Civil Engineers, Building Officials and Code Administrators, National Fire Protection Association, National Institute of Building Sciences, Pennsylvania Building Officials Conference, Philadelphia Engineer’s Club, and the World Organization of Building Officials; and
 
WHEREAS, As a result of his professionalism and high degree of skill and knowledge, David Wismer was named Code Official of the Year by the International Code Council; and
 
WHEREAS, In addition to his many professional memberships, honors and skills, David Wismer has also given back to the community by teaching at Drexel University, Community College of Philadelphia and Spring Garden College and through his activities on behalf of the American Legion and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church; now therefore
 
RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PHILADELPHIA, That we honor David Wismer for his distinguished record of service on behalf of the residents of the City of Philadelphia; and
 
RESOLVED FURTHER, That we wish David Wismer well on his retirement after over three decades of service to his city, state and the nation; and
 
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to David Wismer as evidence of the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body.
