Body
WHEREAS, 3rd Floor Media, founded by Gary Shepard, hosted Oldies in the Park at Vernon Park every Wednesday, July 9 - September 3. Each event brought together over five hundred (500) residents. Attendees were entertained with good music and given information about helpful city services; and
 
WHEREAS, Allegheny West CDC, through the hard work of Keisha Garner, hosted Movie Nights at Panati Recreation Center every Friday night July 11 - August 1. The events included giveaways, family centered activities, and outreach for civic engagement; and
 
WHEREAS, Z & Z Incorporated, headed by Majeedah Rashid of Nicetown CDC, hosted Movie Nights in Nicetown Park every Friday night July 18 - August 29. Over one hundred (100) parents and children attended the events weekly. In addition to entertaining the families, Z & Z Incorporated provided children with backpacks and school supplies; and
 
WHEREAS, The Northwest Jazz Collective, founded by Supreme Dow, hosted the Jazz at Stenton Park events every Monday evening throughout the summer. The events not only drew large crowds, but also brought attention to the offerings of the Nicetown community; and
 
WHEREAS, Serena Sol Brown, through SOL Unlimited Jazz and Arts, hosted Jazz at Morris Estate where a crowd of jazz lovers heard live music and had the opportunity to fellowship with neighbors; and  
 
WHEREAS, G'town Restoration CDC, headed by Connie Swinson, hosted family friendly Movie Nights in Vernon Park every Friday night July 11 - August 8.  The weekly event encouraged large numbers of movie goers to come out to Vernon Park; and
 
WHEREAS, Bringing Everybody Together, founded by Richard Washington, hosted Movie Nights every Friday night June 29 - September 5 at Logan School. The event included movies, basketball tournaments, talent shows, and a host of other activities to engage young people; and
 
WHEREAS, Historic North West Ambassadors, founded by YahNe' Ndgo Baker, helped to secure volunteers and  provide support to event organizers; now, therefore, be it
 
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and recognize the organizations, institutions, and hosts of the 8th Council District's community summer events for their commitment and dedication to building community, supporting youth and families, and providing safe and positive summer activities.
