Also naming the 8100 Block of Fairfield Street as “Dr. Angelo DiBello Place” in honor of Dr. Angelo DiBello, and to commemorate his more than sixty years of medical service to people of Philadelphia.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Dr. Angelo DiBello called Northeast Philadelphia his home for his entire life, growing up in Holmesburg, and committing his career and life to the patients around him; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. DiBello as the oldest of five siblings and attended Frankford High School. He served stateside in the Army during World War II, and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1954, he graduated from medical school at Hahnemann University and married his childhood sweetheart, Matilda Falcione, with whom he raised their son Nicholas, and daughters Donna and Angela; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. DiBello stuck to his Philadelphia roots, completing a residency at Nazareth Hospital and opening a Family Medicine practice in Holmesburg; and

 

WHEREAS, During the 1950s and 1960s, Dr. DiBello delivered over one thousand newborns, many of whom remained patients until his retirement in 2016. Dr. DiBello was well known in the Northeast for his commitment to his patients and his willingness to make house calls; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. DiBello was a distinguished diagnostician who received numerous awards over his career, however one of his most cherished was the Dr. Stanley J. Skromak Award from the medical staff at Nazareth. The Dr. Stanley J. Skromak Award is presented annually to a Nazareth Hospital physician who exemplifies dedication to the medical profession, fosters medical education, demonstrates exemplary patient/physician interaction, shows courtesy and respect towards everyone, and who is a true “doctor’s doctor”; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. DiBello, was a true member of the community as a longtime member of the Union League of Philadelphia, the Torresdale Frankford Country Club, and the American Legion; now,  therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the dedicated service of Dr. Angelo DiBello to Nazareth Hospital, his patients, and Philadelphia is honored and the 8100 block of Fairfield Street shall henceforth also be known as “Dr. Angelo DiBello Place”.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. DiBello’s Family as evidence of the sincere respect and appreciation of this legislative body.
