Recognizing Fiesta Schoolyards and their vision for continuing to enhance the learning and play environments for future generations of Philadelphia's school-aged children.

WHEREAS, Fiesta Schoolyards represents a groundbreaking partnership between the Lindy Foundation, the School District of Philadelphia, and Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, aiming to create safe, dynamic spaces for children to learn, play, and grow; and

 

WHEREAS, Fiesta Schoolyards offers an innovative array of colorful, engaging, and inclusive play options designed to foster creativity, physical activity, and social interaction among students; and

 

WHEREAS, In 2018, the Lindy Foundation set an ambitious goal to transform 100 schoolyards across Philadelphia over the course of 10 years, with a steady pace of completing 10 projects annually; and

 

WHEREAS, The Lindy Foundation, through this initiative, has made significant strides toward realizing its vision by continually enhancing the physical environments of schoolyards in Philadelphia; and

 

WHEREAS, Fiesta Schoolyards has successfully transformed 37 schoolyards, serving over 14,000 students, as well as transforming 3 public parks, providing vibrant and accessible outdoor spaces that enhance the educational experience and well-being of Philadelphia’s children; and

 

WHEREAS, Play is a fundamental aspect of childhood development, contributing to the cognitive, emotional, and physical well-being of children, and safe, well-designed playgrounds are essential in providing environments where children can engage in imaginative play, develop social skills, and build resilience; and

 

WHEREAS, Fiesta Schoolyards contributes not only to the well-being of individual students but also to the overall quality of education and community life by providing environments that encourage physical, emotional, and social development; and

 

WHEREAS, The work accomplished through the Fiesta Schoolyards initiative exemplifies the power of collaboration between local organizations and the public sector to improve the quality of life for children and families across Philadelphia; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA,  Recognizes and commends the Lindy Foundation, the School District of Philadelphia, and Philadelphia Parks and Recreation for their outstanding work on the Fiesta Schoolyards project, and for their dedication to creating vibrant, inclusive spaces that enrich the lives of students throughout our City.
