Recognizing and honoring the students, educators, and leadership of Imhotep Institute Charter High School for their outstanding STEM Program and global educational initiatives, including Project Kuumba: Japan, and celebrating their commitment to expanding access to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education for students in the City of Philadelphia.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Imhotep Institute Charter High School has established internationally recognized STEM Program through rigorous academic experiences, cultural awareness, and global engagement; and

WHEREAS, The STEM Program at Imhotep Institute Charter High School, developed and led by Shirley Posey and supported by dedicated STEM advisors, and community and parent engagement Deborah Toney-Moore provides transformative opportunities for students to gain exposure to careers and academic pathways in fields that represent some of the fastest-growing and highest-paying sectors of the modern workforce; and

WHEREAS, The STEM initiatives at Imhotep Institute Charter High School actively work to address disparities in access to high-quality STEM education by connecting students with real-world learning experiences, global engagement opportunities, and professionals in STEM; and

WHEREAS, During the school’s annual STEM Week, more than 1,600 students participate in hands on and interactive learning experiences alongside over 100 STEM professionals, and the 2026 theme creatively draws inspiration from the popular series Stranger Things to encourage students to explore concepts in physics, investigate the unknown, imagine future possibilities, and apply STEM knowledge to real-world challenges; and

WHEREAS, As part of this groundbreaking program, the STEM Ambassadors participated in Project Kuumba: Japan, an international STEM learning experience that provided students the opportunity to travel to Japan and engage with global leaders in research, sustainability practices, and technological innovation; and

WHEREAS, These students proudly represented their school and City as STEM Ambassadors in Japan: Torrel Odasavon Brown, Grade 11; Torrie Ann Akeelah Brown, Grade 11; Nori Linai Farmer, Grade 12; Ava Rosalie Hargrove, Grade 11; Troy Eugene Headen, Grade 12; Hamza Yazeed Ibn Leonard Moore, Grade 12; Destini Diane Johnson, Grade 9; Peja Lanae Mallory-Hudson, Grade 11; Esa Mustafa Payne, Grade 11; Amari Ayonna Stalworth, Grade 9; Aniya Sani Stalworth, Grade 11; Donte Terrence Whittington, Grade 11; Cyril Zykee Woodland, Grade 12; Imani Wooten, Grade 11; Ronell Shaheem Word, Grade 10; Kaleb Hayden Woseley, Grade 11; and

 

WHEREAS, The City Council of Philadelphia is proud to recognize programs that empower young people, expand access to STEM education, and prepare the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators who will shape the future of our City and our world; now, therefore, be it;

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes and honors the students, educators, and leadership of Imhotep Institute Charter High School for their outstanding STEM Program and global initiative Project Kuumba: Japan, and commends their dedication to expanding opportunity, innovation, and global learning for the youth of Philadelphia.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to Imhotep Institute Charter High School as an expression of the sincere admiration and appreciation of the Council of the City of Philadelphia.
