Celebrating and congratulating the NFL Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, on their triumphant victory in Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs, held at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9, 2025.

WHEREAS, On February 9, 2025, the Philadelphia Eagles dominated in Super Bowl LIX, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs with a score of 40-22, crushing the Chiefs hopes for a three-peat victory, bringing home the Eagles’ second Super Bowl championship; and

 

WHEREAS, This rematch was personal for the Eagles after their narrow 38-35 Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII, fueling their determination to claim the title; and

 

WHEREAS, The Eagles started off strong, scoring midway through the first quarter with the signature “brotherly shove” rushing touchdown by Jalen Hurts, giving the team an early 7-0 lead; and

 

WHEREAS, The Eagles’ defense played a pivotal role in the victory, capitalizing on the Chiefs’ struggles, including a crucial interception by rookie cornerback Cooper DeJean, who returned it 38 yards for a touchdown, on his 22nd birthday, making him the first player in Super Bowl history to score a touchdown on their birthday; and

 

WHEREAS, The momentum continued when Hurts connected with wide receiver DeVonta Smith on a 46-yard touchdown pass, pushing the lead to a commanding 34-0 and effectively sealing the game; and

 

WHEREAS, The Eagles’ defensive line applied constant pressure on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, sacking Mahomes six times and thwarting his attempts to make a comeback; and

 

WHEREAS, Although the Chiefs managed to score late in the third quarter, there was no doubt that the Eagles would win this game, and their victory was celebrated by millions of fans across the country; and

 

WHEREAS, Jalen Hurts won Super Bowl MVP honors, having thrown two touchdowns and rushing for a third, as well as 222 yards passing and 72 yards on the ground; and

 

WHEREAS, Head Coach Nick Sirianni’s strategic leadership was instrumental in the Eagles’ championship journey, along with the creativity of Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore and the no-nonsense strategies deployed by Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio; and

 

WHEREAS, The Eagles’ victory not only represents a triumph for the team, but a triumph for the City and its passionate fan base. Their success serves as an example of what can be achieved through dedication, teamwork, and commitment to excellence; no, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby celebrates and congratulates the Philadelphia Eagles for their triumphant victory in Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs, held at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9, 2025.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Philadelphia Eagles as a token of the sincere admiration of this legislative body.
