Honoring the Bravery of Sherrod Graham, Dwyne Hall, Jerome Plant, And Kyle Young.

WHEREAS, The Council of Philadelphia is pleased and proud to honor Sherrod Graham, Dwyne Hall, Jerome Plant and Kyle Young for their selfless and heroic deeds on the afternoon of Thursday, April 19, 2007, deeds which certainly helped to preserve the life of a senior Philadelphia Resident; and

 

WHEREAS, On that afternoon this young men were participating in Germantown High School versus West Philadelphia High School Track meet when they noticed a house fire that broke out shortly after 3 p.m. on East Gorgas Lane near Baldwin Street across the street from Germantown’s Track and Football Stadium; and

 

WHEREAS, The young men were just beginning the shot-put event in the track competition when thick black smoke could be seen pouring out of the house; and

 

WHEREAS, The sight ensued a lot of frightening commotion, and the young men immediately took off scaling an eight foot high fence and risked their own lives when they entered the burning house after hearing a women yelling for help; and

 

WHEREAS, The young men guided the elderly women out of the burning house and out of harms way then gave her their sweatpants and hoodie from their track uniform because she was not fully clothed; and

 

WHEREAS, After their heroic deed these young men resumed the track meet and proceeded to place in the shot put events; and

 

WHEREAS, The young men are Sherrod Graham, Dwyne Hall and Jerome Plant of Germantown High School Track Team and Kyle Young of West Philadelphia High School Track team; and

 

WHEREAS, Track Coach Stephany Tate-Yancey who was extremely proud of the young men’s actions noted that “You hear so many negative things about Germantown and West Philly. And here are these kids, risking their lives”; now therefore

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby recognize and congratulate Sherrod Graham, Dwyne Hall, Jerome Plant and Kyle Young for their bravery and their selfless and heroic deed on the afternoon of April 19, 2007 which certainly helped preserve the life of a senior Philadelphia Resident.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to each of these young men, as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
