Honoring G. Craig Schelter after serving 34 years in executive leadership positions at both the City Planning Commission and the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation and wishing him well on his new endeavors.

WHEREAS, Craig Schelter served for 15 years at the Philadelphia City Planning Commission and as its Executive Director from 1981 to 1983; and
WHEREAS, In 1983, Mr. Schelter began his tenure at the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) and has served in various executive leadership capacities; and
WHEREAS, Is executive vice president, he over saw the management of the central waterfront; and the development of the former Philadelphia General Hospital site into an award winning medical research complex, the Philadelphia Health Care Sciences Center; and
WHEREAS, As chief executive officer, Mr. Schelter focused on the planning of the Pennsylvania Convention Center, the development of Byberry West industrial park and the central Delaware Waterfront and the creation of a venture capital fund; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Schelter was also a motivating force behind the planning and development of the Avenue of the Arts, and the architect selection process for the Regional Performing Arts Center; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Schelter had the overall responsibility for PIDC’s development team, which included Special Projects, Office of Defense Conversion and the Urban Industry Initiative.
WHEREAS, In 2001, he served as interim president of PIDC and then provided transition assistance to PIDC’s new president, Peter Longstreth; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Schelter has been a two time recipient of the HUD Urban Environment Design Award and has received a Public/Private Partnership Award from the Council for Urban Economic Development; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Schelter holds a B.A. in Art History from Williams College and a Masters in Architecture from Harvard University and has four children; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor G. Craig Schelter after serving 34 years in executive leadership positions at both the City Planning Commission and Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation and wishing him well on his new endeavors; and
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution by presented to G.Craig Schelter as evidence of the deep respect and sincere admiration of this legislative body.
