Honoring Angelo Perryman and Perryman Building and Construction for seventy years of excellence, leadership, and lasting impact on the City of Philadelphia.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Perryman Building and Construction, one of the premier Black-owned major construction companies, was founded in 1954 by Jimmie Perryman in Evergreen, Alabama, and over the past seventy years has become a respected and enduring presence in Philadelphia’s construction industry, playing a vital role in shaping the skyline and strengthening the infrastructure of our City; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1998, Angelo Perryman assumed leadership of the company as President and relocated it to Philadelphia, guiding its continued growth and overseeing more than 1,000 projects that have helped transform and modernize the region; and

 

WHEREAS, The company’s work includes landmark projects such as the installation of approximately 64,000 seats at Lincoln Financial Field, the expansion of the Pennsylvania Convention Center, the Drexel University Health Sciences Building, improvements at Philadelphia International Airport, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, and the Philadelphia Zoo parking garage, among numerous other commercial and industrial developments; and

 

WHEREAS, On February 9, 2026, at the General Building Contractors Association (GBCA) Annual Business Meeting, Angelo Perryman was elected Chairman of the Board, becoming the first African American to serve in this role, a distinction that reflects the confidence of his peers and his strong commitment to union construction, workforce development, and public-private collaboration; and

 

WHEREAS, As a proud second-generation leader, Angelo Perryman has carried forward his family’s legacy of hard work and opportunity, mentoring future leaders and preparing the next generation, including his children, Angelina Perryman and Anthony Perryman, to continue the company’s tradition of service and impact; now therefore be it

 

RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes and honors Angelo Perryman for his exemplary leadership, significant contributions to the construction industry, and enduring impact on the City of Philadelphia; and be it further

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That Engrossed copies of this Resolution are presented to Angelo Perryman and to Perryman Building and Construction as evidence of the Council’s admiration and support.
