Congratulating the Pittsburgh Steelers for winning Super Bowl XL.

WHEREAS, On February 5, 2006, the Pittsburgh Steelers captured their fifth World Championship by defeating the Seattle Seahawks, 21-10; and
WHEREAS, The Steelers, who finished the NFL season with eight consecutive victories, joined the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys as the only teams to win five Super Bowl titles; and
WHEREAS, Ford Field, the home of the Detroit Lions, was jam-packed with Steeler faithful hoping to celebrate their first Super Bowl since 1979. The 2005 version of the Steelers did not disappoint; and
WHEREAS, Former Super Bowl MVPS Lynn Swann and Franco Harris were introduced prior to the game and Franco got the pro-Pittsburgh crowd motivated when he unexpectedly began waving a “terrible towel”; and
WHEREAS, Although out-gained in total yardage by the Seahawks, the Steelers won the Championship by making big plays on both sides of the ball; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh’s initial touchdown was a one-yard run by Ben Roehlisberger which followed a 37 yard pass reception by Hines Ward. Their second touchdown was a Super Bowl record run of 75 yards from scrimmage by Willie Parker while their final tally was a well-designed double-reverse option pass by Antwaan Randle El to Hines Ward, the MVP of Super Bowl XL; and
WHEREAS, Head Coach Bill Cowher achieved his dream of winning a Super Bowl in his fourteenth season as coach of the Steelers while Jerome Bettis returned to his home town of Detroit and won his first in the last game of an outstanding thirteen year career; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we congratulate the Pittsburgh Steelers, their head coach, Bill Cowher, Owner Dan Rooney and all Steeler fans on the occasion of the fifth Super Bowl triumph.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Pittsburgh Steelers organization, further evidencing the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
