Recognizing and honoring Power 99’s Rise and Grind Morning Show for its lasting contributions to radio and the cultural fabric of the City of Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, For fourteen years, Philadelphians would “wake up” to the Rise and Grind Morning Show. This listening experience was significant for many, becoming a family tradition with children hearing their parents tuning in during their morning commute; and
WHEREAS, The Rise and Grind Morning Show aired weekday mornings from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Power 99 FM (WUSL); and
WHEREAS, The show became a defining voice for hip-hop and R&B listeners across the Delaware Valley, awakening the region each day with music, laughter, bold opinions, and real conversations about life, relationships, and the community; and
WHEREAS, The show’s hosts brought an authentic, community-centered style that connected deeply with listeners and reflected the diversity and culture of the Philadelphia area; and
WHEREAS, MuthaKnows joined Power 99 WUSL in 2010 and quickly became a Philadelphia favorite, known for his quick wit, infectious energy and magnetic personality. His popular ‘The Tea’ segment, airing daily during the morning drive, was a favorite among listeners; and
WHEREAS, Mikey Dredd, a long-time Philadelphia radio personality with thirty years at Power 99 WUSL is known for his engaging style and connection with listeners. He first gained popularity hosting the weeknight ‘Hot Boyz’ show alongside co-host Uncle O, and in 2011, he transitioned to co-host the Rise and Grind Morning Show; and
WHEREAS, Roxy Romeo joined the Rise and Grind Morning Show in 2018. A nationally recognized radio veteran heard in over 63 markets, she has received numerous accolades for her contributions to radio and the community; and
WHEREAS, The program consistently achieved strong ratings, reaching tens of thousands of listeners each morning and became a trusted source for news, pop culture, and lifestyle commentary in Philadelphia, setting the standard for urban morning radio; and
WHEREAS, The show was well known for its innovative features such as “The Tea” with MuthaKnows, Roxy’s Rundown with Roxy Romeo, Carmen’s “Phone Jack” and other audience-driven segments; and
WHEREAS, During its run, the show engaged the community, partnering with organizations to give away free backpacks to students in the Mayfair neighborhood, hosting “stop the music” segments to address important social issues and more; and
WHEREAS, Concluding its run in October 2025, the show’s legacy of blending music, culture, entertainment, and community engagement will be forever cherished by the thousands of Philadelphians who tuned in daily; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED,THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Recognizes and honors Power 99’s Rise and Grind Morning Show for its lasting contributions to radio and the cultural fabric of the City of Philadelphia.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to the hosts of the Rise and Grind Morning Show, as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
