Recognizing September as Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI) Awareness Month in the City of Philadelphia, celebrating the launch of the Rosenblatt Family CVI Center at Overbrook School for the Blind, and commending its mission to improve care, education, and research for children with CVI.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI) is the leading cause of visual impairment among children in the United States, impacting a child’s ability to process visual information and often requiring specialized interventions; and

 

WHEREAS, Early detection and intervention are critical to improving outcomes for children with CVI, yet the condition remains underdiagnosed and misunderstood, creating barriers to appropriate care and educational support; and

 

WHEREAS, The Rosenblatt Family CVI Center at Overbrook School for the Blind, officially launched in 2025, represents a transformative advancement in the field of CVI education, research, and family support; and

 

WHEREAS, The Center was made possible through a generous $2 million gift from Sid Rosenblatt, whose philanthropy will enable generations of children and families to access specialized services and resources; and

 

WHEREAS, The Rosenblatt Family CVI Center’s mission includes providing comprehensive clinical evaluations, individualized educational strategies, family support programming, and advancing research to better understand and treat CVI; and

 

WHEREAS, Overbrook School for the Blind, a Philadelphia institution with over 190 years of service, continues to be a national leader in educating and empowering students who are blind or visually impaired, and the new CVI Center builds upon this legacy; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That September be recognized as Cerebral Visual Impairment Awareness Month in the City of Philadelphia, and that Council celebrates the launch of the Rosenblatt Family CVI Center at Overbrook School for the Blind.

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to the Overbrook School for the Blind as an expression of the Council’s admiration and support.
