Recognizing April 6 through 12, 2025 as National Crime Victims’ Rights Week in Philadelphia.

 

Body

WHEREAS, Since 1981, the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) within the Department of Justice has celebrated National Crime Victim’s Rights Week, recognized the accomplishments of the victim’s rights movement, and reflected on the progress that has been achieved on a national level; and

 

WHEREAS, Every April, National Crime Victim’s Rights Week challenges the country to confront and remove barriers to achieving justice for all victims of crime; and

 

WHEREAS, From April 6 through 12, 2025, the OVC commemorates another National Crime Victim’s Rights Week, providing a time for our country to honor those harmed by crime, which affects individuals, families, and communities in profound and varied ways, often leaving lasting physical, emotional and social challenges; and

 

WHEREAS, During National Crime Victim’s Rights Week, the OVC provides resources and community guides that detail how to plan outreach, work with the media, find additional facts and statistics to raise awareness of victims’ rights throughout the year; and

 

WHEREAS, The OVC gives annual grants to local communities, creating financial opportunities to celebrate the week through sponsored events; and

 

WHEREAS, The annual observances of National Crime Victim’s Rights Week remind us of the widespread effects crime has on our nation, while creating avenues to support those affected through resource allocation and community building; and

 

WHEREAS, This year’s National Crime Victim’s Rights Week theme of kinship underscores the connections that build bridges to support, services and share strength among survivors, advocates, and communities; and

 

WHEREAS, Through kinship, society builds peer networks and community alliances that empower survivors, foster resilience, and offer pathways to healing, reminding us of the strength that comes from connection, the importance of listening to every voice, and the power we must create lasting change when we work together; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Recognizes April 6 through 12, 2025 as National Crime Victims’ Rights Week in Philadelphia.

 

FURTHER BE IT RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Office for Victims of crime as evidence of the reverence of this legislative body.
