Body

WHEREAS, Pediatric brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death among children in the United States, with devastating diagnoses such as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) having a near-zero survival rate and limited treatment options. Despite its severity, pediatric brain cancer remains significantly underfunded in research compared to other cancers, leaving families with few options and limited hope for cures; and

WHEREAS, Elora Joyce Khan was born in Philadelphia, and her life and legacy are deeply rooted in this city; she was a vibrant, compassionate, and faith-filled child who brought light and joy to all who knew her, and who courageously battled DIPG before passing away at the age of seven; and

WHEREAS, In her memory, the Elora J. Khan Foundation was established to support families facing pediatric brain cancer, advance collaborative research efforts, and lead community-driven advocacy initiatives to raise awareness and inspire action. The foundation’s work has impacted families both locally and nationally, providing direct support, funding research collaborations, and building a community rooted in compassion, dignity, and hope; and

WHEREAS, The foundation has played a leading role in supporting families, advancing research collaboration, and mobilizing the community through initiatives such as “Philly Lights Up for Elora,” which unites landmarks across Philadelphia in recognition of children impacted by pediatric brain cancer; and

WHEREAS, On June 15, 2026, in honor of what would have been Elora’s 10th birthday, the “Philly Lights Up for Elora” initiative will unite landmarks, businesses, and communities across the City of Philadelphia to shine a light on pediatric brain cancer and the children and families affected by it; therefore, be it,
