Recognizing the week of September 14th to 19th as National Arts Education Week in the City of Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, Receiving an Arts education, pertaining to dance, music, theatre, media arts, literature, and design, is a core academic subject and center of a balanced education for students of all ages; and
WHEREAS, An education in the Arts allows students to develop skills to assist them in any of their studies, provide added motivation to attend school or start a career, and promote positive mental health; and
WHEREAS, Having these skills and interests increase attendance and graduation rates for students, thereby enhancing their academic achievement and allowing them to improve literacy and efficiency by 10% more than their schoolwide averages; and
WHEREAS, Employers in today’s economy look to hire individuals who have developed creative and social traits that are demanded in a 21st-century workforce, such as communicating through words, images, sounds, and movement; and
WHEREAS, The arts are an integral part of culture in the United States, especially in the City of Philadelphia. Philadelphia is home to many artistic achievements, ranging from being the original music City to number two in the country for historic museums, and the “Mural Capital of the World”; and
WHEREAS, Creative Philadelphia, the City’s office of arts and culture, observes National Arts Education Week with an A+ Art student artist exhibition, featuring work from more than 200 students from public schools across the City.
WHEREAS, Creative Philadelphia has been supported since 2010 by its A+ Art exhibit partners, the School District of Philadelphia’s Office of Creative Arts and Learning and Blick Art Materials. Blick has generously donated over $150,000 in supplies for teachers to ease any costs of art supplies for their students’ education; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes the week of September 14-19, 2025, as Arts in Education Week in the City of Philadelphia.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution will be presented to Creative Philadelphia as a sincere expression of the City Council of Philadelphia’s gratitude to honor this occasion.
