Honoring Donald A. Cramp on the occasion of his retirement as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Hospitals and Higher Education Facilities Authority of Philadelphia.

Body

WHEREAS, The Hospitals and Higher Education Facilities Authority of Philadelphia was founded in 1974 to assist in the procuring of funds to construct, expand and renovate hospitals as well as college and universities which specialize in the teaching and administering of medicine; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Cramp, a health care industry veteran of forty years, was named President of the Hospitals and Higher Education Facilities Authority of Philadelphia seventeen years ago; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Cramp began his career in healthcare as an assistant administrator in Oceanside, New York, served as Chief Executive Officer at several hospitals in Kentucky and Ohio, and also served as CEO of the University of Alberta Hospitals in Canada; and

 

WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Mr. Cramp, the Authority saw its issuance of funds to local hospitals and universities nearly triple to over $4 billion dollars; and

 

WHEREAS, During his tenure, the Authority, along with partners including the Delaware Valley Healthcare Council and Independence Blue Cross. were able to secure Philadelphia’s first federal grant to support AIDS research; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1990, Mr. Cramp oversaw the creation of the Healthcare Resources Foundation which funds and actively participates in the addressing of charitable, scientific, educational and health delivery needs in the region; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Cramp’s involvement in the health care industry is not limited to the Authority, as he currently serves as a board member for various organizations including the American Heart Association, the Cradle of Liberty Council and the Mother Bethel Foundation; and

 

WHEREAS, While Donald A. Cramp is retiring from the Authority as a full time board member, he will continue to be an active member of the Authority serving as president emeritus and in an advisory role as well; now therefore

 

RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PHILADELPHIA, That we as a body honor Donald A. Cramp on the occasion of his retirement as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Hospitals and Higher Education Facilities Authority of Philadelphia after seventeen years of service to the Philadelphia health care community, and we recognize and thank him for his many contributions to the city and the region; and

 

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Donald A. Cramp as evidence of the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body.
