WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated was founded on November 9, 1946, in Philadelphia by co-founders Margaret Roselle Hawkins and Sarah Strickland Scott along with seven other friends; and
WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated held their first meeting at 1201 South 46th Street in 1946 and by 1949, the first National Assembly was held in Philadelphia, representing 10 chapters and was officially incorporated in 1951; and
WHEREAS, Today, The Links, Incorporated have over 17,000 professional women across more than 300 chapters in the United States, The Bahamas, and The United Kingdom; and
WHEREAS, Members contribute over 1 million hours of community service every year through five core program facets including Services to Youth, The Arts, National Trends and Services, International Trends and Services, and Health and Human Services; and
WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated is a women's organization founded in Philadelphia to enrich, sustain, and ensure the culture and economic survival of African Americans and persons of African descent through volunteer services, friendship, and civic advocacy; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the 1200 Block of 46th Street at the intersection of Kingsessing Avenue also be named “The Links, Incorporated Lane” to honor the service and impact on the Philadelphia community.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed Copy of this Resolution be presented The Links, Incorporated as a token of our appreciation and acknowledgement of their lasting impact on the Philadelphia community.
