Honoring and congratulating Champion of the Week, student-athlete Donta Scott, on his book, “Wired Differently: My School Journey” which helps young student-athletes and parents prepare for the recruitment and school selection process.

WHEREAS, Donta Scott is a 2019 graduate of Imhotep High School and star player in the Philadelphia Public Leauge; and
WHEREAS, Scott is one of the athletes who helped lead the Maryland Terrapins to the NCAA Tournament last season and while playing for Imhotep, lead the team to 3 consecutive Public League Championship; and
WHEREAS, In Philadelphia, many student-athletes have failed to meet the college admissions standards and NCAA freshman eligibility guidelines causing young men and women to be ineligible for scholarship offers, ranging from $160,000 to $320,000 over four years of playing; and
WHEREAS, These scholarships can allow student-athletes, particularly from urban communities, opportunities to gain a college education to build a bright future and serve as role models in their neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, The recruitment process can be very confusing and difficult, especially for many young students that feel lots of pressure to be high-performing athletes and have academic success for future college opportunities; and
WHEREAS, In his book, Scott shares personal stories and practical guidelines on how to balance sports and academics, choosing the right schools, other challenging topics student-athletes face; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby congratulate and honor, student-athlete Donta Scott, on his book, “Wired Differently: My School Journey” which helps young student-athletes and parents prepare for the recruitment and school selection process.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy be presented to Donta Scott, further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
