Designating October 1st as "Latin American Entrepreneur Day" in recognition of the successful "Latin America Thrives in Philadelphia" event.

WHEREAS, The first-ever "Latin America Thrives in Philadelphia" event was held in LOVE Park on October 1, 2021; and
WHEREAS, Held in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, leaders from 11 different countries and territories - Puerto Rico, Mexico, The Dominican Republic, Argentina, Venezuela, Peru, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Uruguay - organized the event to showcase the many economic and cultural contributions of Philadelphia's diverse Latin American communities; and
WHEREAS, Twenty-five participating vendors, entrepreneurs, crafts makers, and food vendors set up shop in the market-style fair; and
WHEREAS, Organizers noted the rarity of such collaboration between the diverse Latin American communities and hope to host the event on an annual basis; and
WHEREAS, In addition to the participating vendors and businesses, the event featured traditional musical performances from Venezuelan, Colombian, Puerto Rican, Brazilian, and Argentinian performers, among others; and
WHEREAS, Hispanics and Latinos represent 15 percent of Philadelphia's population, a 27 percent increase over the last decade; and
WHEREAS, Events like "Latin America Thrives" highlight the many contributions of this growing bloc of Philadelphians, educate the public at large on entrepreneurism and business, and bring together communities of all backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, In support of this mission, the City of Philadelphia is pleased to designate October 1 as the annual "Latin American Entrepreneur Day"; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADLEPHIA, That it herby designates October 1st as "Latin American Entrepreneur Day" in recognition of the successful "Latin America Thrives in Philadelphia" event.
