WHEREAS, Tommy Coletti was born April 22, 1938 to Irene and Verino Coletti in South Philadelphia. Verino Coletti became a citizen and fought for the United States in France during World War I; and
WHEREAS, Tommy Colletti, a printer by trade, was born and raised in South Philadelphia and was a lifelong resident except for the 6 years and 6 months when he was in the United States Army during the Vietnam War; and
WHEREAS, Tommy Coletti attended Southern High School, played football for Order of Brotherly Love, OBL, was a member of the Sons of Italy, a volunteer for the Gift of Life program, a great family man, great father and beloved grandfather; and
WHEREAS, Tommy Coletti married Joanna Naiellano on April 20, 1974. They had one child, Tommy Junior, who has many accolades and many of the same great qualities that made his father such a pillar of the neighborhood. Tommy and Joanna Coletti were married for 42 years until Tommy’s untimely passing in March 2016; and
WHEREAS, Tommy Coletti was just a plain old South Philly neighborhood guy who grew up in the 1940’s and 50’s when South Philadelphia was a much different place than it is today. He wasn’t a celebrity or a famous sports figure or a wealthy guy from the neighborhood, he was just a nice, decent guy from the neighborhood who loved and served his family, his neighborhood, Philadelphia and the United States; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That 13th Street between Mifflin and McKean Streets is also named in honor of Tommy Coletti.
