Also naming the Benjamin Franklin Parkway at the intersection of 16th and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway as "Avenue of Remembrance."
Body
WHEREAS, The corner of 16th Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, under the Israeli  Flag, is the oldest monument in this country memorializing the Holocaust, dedicated in 1964; and

WHEREAS, The monument, created by renowned sculptor Nathan Rapoport, was commissioned by Philadelphia survivors and serves to remind us of the horrors of Nazi Germany and the strength of the human spirit; and

WHEREAS, Each year the Jewish Community conducts a memorial ceremony in honor of the victims of the Holocaust at the Holocaust Memorial at 16th and the Parkway; and

WHEREAS, At that time, a temporary sign with the language "Avenue of Remembrance" is placed under the existing sign at that intersection; and

WHEREAS, The Jewish Federation, the Jewish Community Relations Council, the Memorial Committee, and various groups of Holocaust survivors support a permanent name addition; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, THAT the Benjamin Franklin Parkway at the intersection of 16th and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway shall also be known as "The Avenue of Remembrance".
