Recognizing November 13-17, 2006 as Retirement Planning Education Week in the city of Philadelphia.

WHEREAS, In recognition of National Retirement Planning Week, the U.S. Department of Labor, along with the Internal Revenue Service, the Social Security Administration, Department of Health & Human Services and coming of age, is planning an outreach effort designed to educate the surrounding community about the critical need for workers to begin planning for their retirement; and

WHEREAS, Retirement planning is essential to contemporary workers since they have more responsibility to fund their own retirements than workers of previous generations; and

WHEREAS, During National Retirement Planning Week, the Department of Labor will be hosting a free, two-day event, Why Go Broke: Retirement Strategies for the 21st Century Worker, which will provide the public with valuable information that can be used in planning for future financial independence; and

WHEREAS, This event is designed to especially benefit low-income workers, small business employees, new entrants to the workforce and workers nearing retirement; and

WHEREAS, On Wednesday, November 15, the public will be encouraged to call the Labor Department's Employee Benefit Security Administration to have questions answered by experts about federal pension plan protections and other related issues; and

WHEREAS, On Thursday, November 16, there will be a Meet the Experts Information Fair, held at Houston Hall on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, where related federal, state and local government agencies, non-profits and professional associations will be onsite distributing information and providing counsel; and

WHEREAS, This event will equip workers throughout the tri-state area with the tools they require to plan for retirement regardless of where they are in their career; now therefore
