Renaming and designating the property commonly referred to as Panati Playground, located at 3100 N 22nd Street, to the “Allegheny West Recreation Center” in recognition of the community and neighborhood that it serves.

WHEREAS, Vincent Panati Playground is a public recreational space serving residents, families, and visitors in the Allegheny West neighborhood of the City of Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, Renaming Vincent Panati Playground as Allegheny West Playground grounds the space in the identity of the neighborhood it serves and makes the playground immediately recognizable to the surrounding community; and
WHEREAS, Using a neighborhood-based name strengthens community ownership of a public asset that functions as a shared gathering space for residents of all ages; and
WHEREAS, The name Allegheny West Playground reflects the area’s history, geography, and sense of place, and aligns with how residents already refer to the surrounding community; and
WHEREAS, Neighborhood-based naming reinforces civic pride, improves wayfinding, and supports clearer communication among City agencies, community organizations, and the public; and
WHEREAS, Renaming the playground is intended to be inclusive and practical, ensuring the site’s name represents the broader community rather than an individual; and
WHEREAS, This change is symbolic and administrative in nature only and does not impact the playground’s existing use, operation, maintenance, or public access; now, therefore,
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA HEREBY ORDAINS:
SECTION 1. The Panati Playground is hereby renamed and dedicated as the “Allegheny West Recreation Center”.
SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately.
