Renaming the 400 block of E. Rittenhouse Street "Dione Johns Dancy Way" to honor Dione Johns Dancy for her tireless service to the Germantown Community and Philadelphia at-Large.

WHEREAS, Dione Johns Dancy was born to Theresa Johns and Aubrey James Meyers at Pennsylvania Hospital on December 27th, 1966; and
WHEREAS, Dione grew up in Germantown and was educated in the Philadelphia public school system at Fulton Elementary School and later Germantown High School; and
WHEREAS, At Germantown High, Dione showed herself to be very scholarly and became involved in numerous clubs and after-school activities. She was extremely popular and, incidentally, was voted Prom Queen; and
WHEREAS, Dione's love and passion for styling hair and her entrepreneurial capabilities began at the age of 15 years old, as she began styling girls hair for a fee with numerous clients seeking her services weekly; and
WHEREAS, After graduating high school, Dione enrolled in cosmetology school to expand her knowledge of haircare and perfect her skills and abilities; and
WHEREAS, During this period, Dione became affiliated with Ruth Harper's Modeling and Charm School where she excelled and began enrolling in regional beauty pageants including the Miss Ebony Pennsylvania Pageant. Her talent was singing; and
WHEREAS, After completing cosmetology school, Dione spent the next 5-years employed with ELASTA Hair Products, traveling across the country to hair shows demonstrating different hair styling techniques while utilizing the company's products; and
WHEREAS, Dione later decided to open her own beauty salon in Nicetown, and later moved the business to West Philadelphia where she operated for many years; and
WHEREAS, Through the years, Dione has served as an inspiration for many young women in the community, mentoring them on how to successfully launch and manage careers in cosmetology; and
WHEREAS, Dione, after marring Mr. John Dancy, relocated to Schwenksville, Pennsylvania in ...
