Recognizing the Heroic Efforts of William and Carole Py in Raising Their Three Orphaned Grandchildren and Commending ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition for Giving the Py Grandparents a New House and Commending Drexel University for Committing College Scholarships to the Py Grandchildren.

WHEREAS, In July 1997, Jose Rosario lost his life to a brain aneurysm; and
WHEREAS, In November 1998, Sandra Py Rosario lost her life to breast cancer; and
WHEREAS, Jose and Sandra were survived by their three small children William, Samantha and Jose; and
WHEREAS, William and Carole Py, after raising four children of their own and putting them through college, accepted the responsibility of raising their three grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, William and Carole Py later discovered that their house was plagued by asbestos and lead problems; and
WHEREAS, On March 22, 2006, William and Carole Py were informed by the design team of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition that they were selected from among thousands of applicants to receive a new single-family home located in the Northeast section of Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, We commend ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition for selecting the Py family for the generous gift of a new home; and
WHEREAS, Drexel University has added to the Py's good fortune by committing college scholarships to the Py grandchildren should they attend Drexel University; and
WHEREAS, We commend Drexel for its thoughtful and generous commitment; now therefore
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Recognizes the heroic efforts of William and Carol for raising their three orphaned grandchildren; and
FURTHER RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Commends ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition for giving the Py family a new home and commending Drexel University for committing college scholarships to the Py grandchildren.
