WHEREAS, Ryan Howard, the Philadelphia Phillies Star 1st Baseman, has compiled a very impressive list of statistics and accomplishments in only his second year in the Majors; and
WHEREAS, Ryan Howard was named Rookie of the Year for his outstanding play as a first year player in 2005; and
WHEREAS, The Phillie Extraordinaire won the Hank Aaron Award; and
WHEREAS, In 2006, Sporting News named Ryan Howard, “Player of the Year”; and
WHEREAS, Ryan Howard is the Most Popular Athlete in Philadelphia, as seen in Philadelphia Magazine's, Best of Philly Edition; and
WHEREAS, Last year, he batted .313, while leading the Majors in RBIs and Homeruns. In fact, his 58 homers broke the Phillies' single season record previously held by Mike Schmidt; and
WHEREAS, These impressive statistics earned Howard a selection to the National League All-Star Team, and during All-Star Weekend he won the Homerun Derby; and
WHEREAS, Ryan Howard was named the National League Most Valuable Player; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Howard's reputation for sportsmanship, hard work, determination and achievement represents everything good in Philadelphia Sports; now therefore
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby Recognizes, Honors and Celebrates Ryan Howard for being Voted The National League Most Valuable Player and His Many Accomplishments in His Young Career and His Tremendous Contribution to the City of Philadelphia.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Ryan Howard further evidencing the sincere admiration and gratitude of this legislative body.
